Copper
Rescued from Brevard County (01-2017), adopted out by Nicole INTACT, found as a stray in Charlotte County (03-2017), not re-claimed by Nicole.

Lost and Found Pets of Brevard County, FL
March 5, 2017

The wolfdog named Copper, who was pulled from Brevard County AC back in January by All Creatures Safe Haven (who portrayed themselves as being an experienced wolfdog rescue when in fact they were the farthest thing from it), was recently (Feb 21st) taken into custody by Charlotte County AC after presumably escaping from the care and custody of Nicole O'Brien of All Creatures. Ms. O'Brien was contacted by Charlotte Co. and denied that this animal belonged to her, and left him sitting terrified in the shelter. To date, she has not posted a single thing indicating this animal is no longer in her care, or where he is, or what happened to him. That is unacceptable.
Today, he is finally safe in the care and custody of our experienced staff and volunteers at In Harmony With Nature. We continue to ask and encourage everyone to seek out experienced and qualified individuals to handle rescues of exotic animals such as wolfdogs like Copper, and not remain complacent in allowing non-wolfdog rescuers to get involved.
Thankfully, this animal finally found his happy ending but it should never have gotten to this point. Had we been allowed to do what we do from the beginning, we could have kept this animal safe from day 1. There is absolutely no substitute for experience, knowledge of this breed, and preparedness to house and handle them. No amount of dog knowledge or desire to save an animal will prepare someone to take on a wolfdog and those who are not prepared will not only fail, they will gravely endanger the life of the animal they intend to save. Please consider the best interest of a wolfdog if/when you find one needing help.
If you would like to contribute to Copper's care, you may do so at: www.IHWN.org.
