Man accused of robbing, kidnapping victim met on Grindr dating site

A man was robbed and kidnapped Saturday after he visited the Boynton Beach residence of another man he met on a social networking site, according to an arrest report.

The victim, who is not being identified by Boynton Beach police, was taken at knife point back to his home, which was then ransacked by three men, the report said. Among the items stolen was the victim’s dog, named Coco.

Vadol Marquise Reed, 22, is facing charges of robbery with a firearm and kidnapping, police said.

A second man was arrested by Boynton police but has since been released pending further investigation, police said.

The victim told officers he began chatting March 31 with Reed on Grindr, a gay dating site. On Saturday, Reed invited the man over to his home on the 400 block of Northeast 10th Avenue.

While the victim was in the company of Reed, two masked men entered the room where they were sitting, the report said. One man held a knife and the second a metal pole. Reed allegedly pulled out a handgun and told the victim to relinquish everything of value.

With a knife to his throat, the robbers forced the victim to drive to his home where they stole numerous items, including Coco, the report said.

The victim was allegedly forced to drive the men back to the residence in Boynton Beach and was told not to report the incident or they would return to kill him.

Scared of retribution, the victim told Boynton Beach police he did not report the robbery to law enforcement but instead published an alert on the LGBT Facebook page, the report said.

The victim then received a message from another man who said he was also robbed at the Boynton home.

“The other male stated that he also did not report the incident because he was scared; however, the two together felt like they needed to do something or others would fall victim,” a Boynton officer wrote in the report.

Coco has since been returned to the victim, police said.

Police believe that Reed and the two other men are also responsible for at least two other robberies of men they met on Grindr, police said.

Homestead Man Accused of Stealing, Selling Woman's Pet Monkey

A Homestead man is facing a grand theft charge after he allegedly stole, then sold, his neighbor's pet monkey.

Oscar Leiva, 21, was arrested Sunday night and booked into Miami-Dade jail, where he was being held on $5,000 bond Monday, records showed. Attorney information for Leiva was not available.

Officers responded to the neighborhood in the 400 block of Southeast 8th Street after the monkey's owner, Vanessa Di Gennaro, reported it missing, according to an arrest report.

Di Gennaro said she was cleaning her home and had left the monkey, Zoe, in her backyard. When she went to check on her, the monkey was missing.

"She's my baby, she's my kid. She goes everywhere with me. I love her to death," Di Gennaro said.

Di Gennaro said she had posted fliers in the area and received a call from a witness who told her the monkey, a white tufted marmoset valued at $2,900, was at Leiva's home, the report said.

Officers found Leiva, who said the monkey was in his kitchen and he thought it was a rat so he caught it. He said he realized it was a monkey so he put it in a cage in his room, the report said.

Leiva said the monkey climbed on his shoulder and he tried to grab it but it tried to bite him, the report said. He said he fell asleep and the monkey ran away.

But the witness said Leiva told him he had stolen the monkey and sold it for $900, the report said.

The suspect's mother believes he's innocent. She told NBC 6 in Spanish that her son does not have the animal.

"I'm surprised that there are people that are that evil on one hand and also people that are good that say 'hey, this is where she is,'" Di Gennaro said.

Di Gennaro said she's worried about Zoe's safety and is offering a $2,000 reward for her return.

"She's a very delicate animal on top of everything, she's not like a dog that you can leave alone. They get into things, they hurt themselves really easy. You have to watch them," she said.

LEE COUNTY, FL - A little boy was taken from his filthy Lee County home because of the dozens of animals were living inside! But his mother just surrendered 69 of those cats to Lee County DAS. They say it's a case of someone trying to do the right thing, but then things got out of control.

In all, 78 animals were inside the San Carlos Park home and the owner, Brandy Mondry, said it was time for a change.

"There's a difference in right and wrong and asking for help and not asking for help," said Mondry.

Ultimately, 69 of the cats were surrendered by Mondry to Lee County Domestic Animals Services.

"Sometimes before you realize it, you take on more than you can handle and that's what happened in this situation," said Ria Brown, with Lee DAS.

The cats all came in from a rescue group that Mondry started called Hopes Furever After.

"You wake up to crates of cats on your doorstep, dogs tied to your doorknob, things of that nature happen," said Mondry.

The cats also caused her son to be removed from the home.

"DCF did unfortunately take my 11-year-old son from the home because of the ammonia smell because I had a large number of cats through my rescue group," Mondry said.

Officials from DFC said, "In cases where there are environmental hazards like this one, where the house was unclear to the point the child's safety was at risk, we help the family remedy the situation."

While they investigate, the child is staying with his grandparents.

"Were going to keep our fingers crossed that me finding good homes for these guys will allow my son to come back home," Mondry said.

The woman was allowed to keep five cats and four dogs.

But the situation is putting stress on Animal Services, now taking care of more than 400 animals that need homes.

'Not all of the cats were healthy, but most of them were,' Ria Brown, spokeswoman for the shelter, said. 'They all seemed very friendly.'

Brown said Mondry had rescued some cats who were in poor health and was working to rehabilitate them. Most of the cats have either been spayed or neutered, Brown said. They also went through a checklist on each of the cats to ensure all vaccinations had been given.
The shelter is putting out a call to the community to come and adopt the cats as the shelter is now overwhelmed.
In addition to the 69 cats joining the shelter on Wednesday morning, more than 100 cats and dogs currently reside there.
To encourage adoptions, Brown said, they are offering a 2-for-1 special on cats and the 69 surrendered are $30.
Brown also said notices were sent to Mondry after complaints were filed by neighbors.
'People have to look at their resources and be realistic when they do this,' Brown said. 'You need to make sure you won't be overwhelmed because in the end it doesn't help you or the animals, no matter how much you want it to.'

Lexi, the dog is being kept from the rescue by former foster Brandy Mondry. The cops have tried, she won't answer the door or her phone.

We fear she's done something to the dog, she's threatening us with a lawsuit. She contacted AVID and registered the dog to her. The rescue proved she didn't own dog, they changed chip to stolen.

Brandy was fostering for Parker’s Rainbow Bridge and didn't bring Lexi to three events in three weeks so rescue demanded her back and she refused.

Brandy sent an adoption application for her roommate on Sunday saying that he wanted to adopt her. Rescue told her she needed to bring the dog to the event and they would review the applications and make the best choice. Brandy never showed with Lexi, so rescue drove to the house and supposedly she wasn't there at that time.

Brandy Mondry was cited in 2011 with 72 animals.

Hello Jamie,
Before I tell Layla's story of how she went missing, I would like to thank you Jamie Katz and the members of Conway Orlando Community, Conway Critters, Stacey Ribeau, Orlando PD, Katrina Evans, Scott Reigel and Clearwater PD for the work care and support you all showed.

My English is not 100% perfect but here is my story. When I first got Layla from her previous owner in Georgia in the beginning of December 2016 she was neglected. Layla used to live in a big farm and was not allowed to stay inside the house, she had ticks, fleas, hook worm, heart worm and an eye infection. Layla was responding to the treatment very fast and within 2-3 weeks Layla was becoming healthier and very happy. On Saturday January 14th, my wife and I went out for dinner, it was around 9pm. We took the kids with us to drop them at my wife's friends house to baby sit them and we all came back home around 11:30pm. When I parked the car, I stepped out and I could see the sliding glass door open. I knew right away that Layla was gone. I walked around the apartment complex hoping Layla was still out there but she wasn't. The next day we went out looking for her at Pet Alliance in Sanford and Orlando but we couldn't find her. I posted her picture on Conway Orlando Community and Conway Critics hoping someone would tell me information about her.

A couple hours had gone by and then a guy messaged me saying my dog was on craigslist. The guy that posted the add left his name & his phone number. Stacey & I responded to the add but he replied saying he already had my dog scanned for a microchip and he found the owner. I replied saying my dog is not microchipped, after a half day of me calling and texting him, he finally answered my phone call. I asked him if I can have my dog back, I told him that I have a proof she's mine and he said he gave her to his friend in Clearwater, Florida. He gave me her name, her phone number and he asked me to keep him out of this. I called the woman right away but she rejected my call but she texted me and said she would rather text. She wanted to know everything about my dog, she wanted pictures, shot records, my wanted to know my dogs name and her description… but at the end she said that it was not my dog. She then blocked me from being able to contact her and everyone who tried to tell her that it was my dog got blocked too.

I called Orlando PD and asked for an officer to write a police report, thirty minutes later a police officer was on my door and Stacey showed up too. Five days later my case was still not solved, everything was happening very slow and then Stacy called me with a new plan. Stacey said she knows that if I hired PI Jamie Katz, that she will bring your dog back. I called Jamie, hired her and within a couple hours Jamie had a complete plan for me to follow. Jamie set up everything I needed to do in order to get my dog back from this woman, all I had to do was follow Jamie’s instructions 100%.

I drove to Clearwater, FL on January 26th, I got there around 8:30 pm. I called the Clearwater PD and told them I needed an officer to meet me and help me get my stolen dog back. The Officer asked me to show him the proof that the dog this woman had in her home was Layla and proof that Layla was my dog. I showed all proof Jamie said we needed and the Police Officer knocked on her door. She answered the door and the look on her face was as if she was surprised that we were here. She started with, “Sir, this guy threatened me”. The police officer looked at me and said, “did you”? I said no. The only defense this woman was saying for days was that my dog was skinny and said I threatened her. She said nothing in response and the police officer said let's not get into this and that we are all adult here. The officer than asked for her to bring the dog outside and then she said the dog has been abused. The officer said if the dog shows signs that she is fears me, then we will do something about that too. The officer wanted to see if I was the owner by Layla’s response once she saw me. The woman insisted that she was looking for the dog’s owner but all these people were trying to claim her including myself. I told the officer that I tried to show her proof that she is mine but she wanted to keep her. There were a lot of people online trying to help me but she blocked them all from contacting her as well. The officer then said, “please ma'am, bring the dog outside”. She went inside and brought Layla out on leash. Layla saw me and she started walking toward me wagging her tail but the woman was holding the leash tight. The officer asked her to drop the leash on the ground but she didn't want to, she was holding Layla’s leash was not wanting to let go. The officer then said, “may I”, and took the leash from her hand and dropped it on the ground. That's when Layla ran to me! I was checking her all over to see if she was okay and she was. She was dirty and had a lot of dirt in her ears and then…I noticed that her two white nails on her left rear foot were painted with black nail polish to try and change her toe nail color from white to black. I told this woman that Layla had two white toe nails when she asked me to prove this dog was mine and she used that to try and fool me!!!

I was so happy to be holding my baby and to finally have her back. I called my family and told them all that we got Layla back, I then called Jamie Katz and Stacey and thanked them over and over.

I have heard one or two stories of a missing dogs hair being dyed in order to disguise the dog from the owner. In my experience this is not common but I am here to let you know it does in fact happen and it's sick!
A couple days ago I was messaging back and forth with a woman in her late 20's. This woman's friend had given her a lost dog almost 2 weeks prior and she was not looking for the owner. This woman told me that she was only holding on to this dog because she did not want to give the dog to someone pretending to be the dogs owner... I understood that and now I was here to give her all the proof in the world that she had my clients dog.
I sent vet records, a photo of my client with his dog and I told her that the dog's left rear foot had two white toes & toenails. Besides the fact that my client hired me to get his dog back, this woman still would not cooperate or believe this was the same dog.

I don't want to ruin the found story but we got the police to step in and we were able to reunite the dog with the owner…

My client called me as soon as he got his dog back and he was ecstatic!!! He was telling me all that transpired with the police officer, the woman, all that was said and then he said, "she painted my dogs toenails". My first thought was ohhhh... she loved the dog and that's why no proof was good enough for this girl. Well I was wrong because she did NOT paint this dogs toenails pink, she painted the dogs toenails black!!!!

I have now had my first case of someone trying to change the appearance of a missing dog in order to keep the dog from it's owner. My mind is officially blown and I will post this story in the next couple hours...

Ana Campos The friend of the owner confirmed by phone that yes she had a problem with him having cancer and they, the owner and her and their side believe she is anti gay. The friend told me there are a lot of people contacting her or them that live there who are very upset. Said more stuff coming out. That Theresa was wealthy and bought that building and that there is no vet really there. That certain people believe she's doing procedures and she's claimed to be a vet. Weird stuff like that. Previous owner adopter is willing to testify about her doing a procedure in their pet herself and the dog got sick. I need to clarify that one. But she said that's what a lot of people think is happening.

Ana Campos Theresa also seems to be psychotic. Like she said the dog was locked in a car and she had to go rescue the dog and break the window. So they got the surveillance out to show her it's not true. Then she changed her mind. The guy adopted another dog from her Peanut from Louisiana floods. She brought In those dogs. She told him she has no idea what he's talking about and that Peanut was not adopted to him from her. Again he has the contract and Paperwork.

Ana Campos I spoke to Elise the friend of Dave the owner just now. She said he had chemo therapy treatment today and is feeling very down. I gave her an attorney name that was given to me. They are filing a report with the police for fraud since the Theresa Ink of PPaws Leecountylied and said they were the owner. Also for theft since she said they were returning him and then didn't. They sold him to someone else who called the chip company and tried to change the chip info. The chip company called him and told him. He refused to allow it. So out there is a new owner who knows there is a problem. All that is fraud, theft and trafficking in stolen property.

The rescue did say they don't like him having this many chemo treatments and it's believed she does have a problem with him being gay and in a gay bar. That's what even they believe and discriminating against this man for having cancer or being gay is horrific.

Ana Campos Is anyone familiar with PetTrac? This chip company received a call from the new owners of Fred trying to switch the chip info to them. Then they wouldn't disclose who they were to the owner of the chip.

I see that you are on the Board of Directors for PAWS Lee County. Im not sure if you are aware of this viral video doing the rounds??

I'd like for you to please intervene. This man has cancer and it appears as though Theresa Ink
committed fraud when she pretended to be the owner of his lost dog. She said she would return Fred and then sold him. She specifically said she doesn't approve of the disabled owner with cancer having several chemo treatments. He purchased the dog in September and there is a bill of sale. When you find lost property in Florida you have to return it or it is considered grand theft and then conversion.

People are boycotting PAWS and not donating to a organization who pretty much is discriminating against a gay man that has cancer and was in a gay bar. I believe there will be a protest tomorrow. I'm pretty sure the police and an attorney will be involved this week for theft of this dog.

Do you have any comments and would you be willing to negotiate the return if this dog? I would love to see a happy ending and this organization do the right thing by this poor man.

The news is doing a follow up story and it would be great to resolve this amicably.

Hello Ana. Your email was the first I heard of this situation. While I am a board member, I serve the group in an advisory capaity. Theresa Ink is the driving force behind it. I have known her for 20 years and I can tell you that her motivation is always to ensure that the animals get the best care possible. I spoke to her and she said that this man did not fulfill the terms of the contract and was extremely abusive to her. She does not care whether someone is gay or straight -- I know this because we have mutual close friends who are gay. She didn't even know the bar was a gay club. That isn't the problem here. I am telling you this for background, not to be quoted for a news story. Theresa is the spokesperson for this organization. This is an unfortunate situation and, as someone who has had cancer twice, I am sorry that he has to deal with that, too, but this is not something I can fix.

She did state she had an issue with his chemo and that is discrimination. I have no reason to make that up. She freely admits it. The police are involved because it is theft.

Theresa fraudulently posed as the owner Karen. She is not the owner. The contact is a purchase and there is a bill of sale. The contract is not a co-ownership like it was a vehicle purchase with co-owners and co-signers. It is a purchase. Dave owns that dog and animals are considered property.

What she did was in violation of state property statutes 705.102 and 705.104. They clearly state when you find lost property you must file a police report and surrender it upon request. There is a 90 day custodial period before the property becomes the finders. Should the finder refuse to relinquish the found property they commit grand theft and the severity is based upon several factors.

I've attached the statutes. The dog was not 'co-owned'. It is the property of Mr. Cunningham. That is where Theresa has also made a huge unlawful error.

If there were any issue, you know and she knows, she would have to go to court to enforce a 'contract dispute'.

It is not finders keepers. When she misrepresented herself as the owner she committed fraud. She acquired this 'lost property' by misrepresenting herself. When she said she would return the dog to the owner and then refused she committed grand theft. When she sold the property it is dealing in stolen property. That statute is 812.019

I assure you she has not told you the truth. I strongly suggest you have a lawyer educate her on the laws she broke. The police are involved and a lawsuit is being filed against her.

I spoke to the chip company and we feel there is enough evidence to arrest Theresa. They advised me that Theresa Ink of PAWS called the chip company pretending to be the owner and tried to change the chip info on Jan 30 at 9:53am after stealing this dog. The dog was stolen. It is grand theft Karen.

I strongly suggest you be the voice of reason here with her and let Theresa know she committed grand theft and the family is pursuing an arrest. The news will be doing more stories.

Here are two other examples of rescues I helped get arrested based on those statutes. They found a lost dog and tried to play finders keepers or circumvent the court process. Theresa can not circumvent the court process. What she did was illegal and we will go above and beyond to make sure she is arrested.

Shawntavia Nelson was arrested in Palm Beach County in 2016.

Dr. Jill Levine of Atlas Animal Rescue was arrested for doing the exact same thing Theresa Ink has done. She had an adoption contract / bill of sale. You can't circumvent the judicial system and play finders keepers. She refused to return the dog and was arrested.
